OmniVision Launched 200MP Sensor for High-End Smartphones

OmniVision, The mobile image sensor manufacturing company has announced their new second-gen 200MP image sensor called OVB0A for high-end smartphone cameras. The first gen 200MP sensor OVB0B was made with 0.612 µm, but no manufacturers made it available for the market.

The new OmniVision OVB0A sensor has an ultra-compact 200 Megapixel image sensor with a 0.56 µm pixel size with a 1/1.4-inch optical structure format. OmniVision claims that OVB0A is one of the world’s smallest 200MP sensors designed for Smartphones. With its 16-in-1 Pixel binning technology we can expect OVB0A to deliver the best low-light performance. OVB0A also features 100% QPD ( Quad Phase Detection ) technology for superior autofocus.

The OVB0A sensor’s selective conversion gain feature provides the best balance between High Dynamic Range (HDR) and low-light image quality. That enables the smartphone manufacturers to optimize the performance of HDR in contrasting Dark and Light areas.

With 16-in-1 Pixel Binning OVB0A sensor can produce images of 12.5MP, and for video recording, it can achieve 4K at 120 fps (frames per second) or 4K at 60 fps with the timing of 2‑exposure staggered HDR. The on-chip pixel reduction feature enables OVB0A to record 8K video and 2x crop zoom (with HDR) at 12.5MP.

The OVB0A image sensor supports DPHY, CPHY, and dual DOVDD (1.8V and 1.2V) and the sensor will be available from Q4 2022.
