DJI – the well-known brand for quadcopter drones and gimbals, launched its third iteration of the action camera – Osmo Action 3. With this camera, DJI goes a step backward and takes a similar design approach as the original Osmo Action. For last year’s Action 2 DJI has taken a modular design approach, but that was not worked well for them, as a new design comes with a new set of challenges. Let’s take a closer look at DJI Osmo Action 3.

Specifications & Features

DJI Osmo Action 3 comes with a 1/1.7-inch CMOS 12 Megapixel sensor that has a fixed aperture of f/2.8 and 155-degree FOV (Field-of-View). The maximum resolution for a photo is 4,000 x 3,000 pixels. The camera offers a 4X digital zoom for regular photo mode, 2X zoom for videos more than 60FPS, 4X zoom for videos less than or equal to 60FPS with HorizonSteady Off, and 3X zoom for videos less than or equal to 60FPS with HorizonSteady On.
The camera gets connectivity features like Bluetooth v5.0 and Wi-Fi 5. The camera has three microphones that will help record audio better. The camera can be submerged under water for up to 16-meter without a waterproof case and can go up to 60-meter with a waterproof case.

Video Recording

For video recording, DJI Osmo Action 3 can record 4K at 60FPS with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and 4k at 120FPS with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The camera gets shooting modes like Timelapse, Hyperlapse, and Slow Motion. For stabilization, it gets RockSteady 3.0, HorizonSteady, HorizonBalancing, and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) options.

Display

The DJI Osmo Action has two displays one on the front and one on the back both of them are touchscreen. The front display has a resolution of 320×320 pixels, and the back display has a 360×640 pixel resolution, both of them have a pixel density of 326ppi.

Battery & Charging

The DJI Osmo Action 3 comes with a 1,770 mAh battery which can last for 160 minutes of recording according to DJI. The camera gets a rapid charge functionality that can charge the device from 0 to 80% in just 18 minutes and can fully charge the device in less than an hour.

Availability and Pricing

The DJI Osmo Action 3 is available for purchase in two combos standard and adventure. It is available to purchase on the official website of DJI – store.dji.com and retail partners in several countries.
There is no official update about India availability and pricing yet.

The DJI Osmo Action 3 will compete with the newly launched GoPro Hero 11 Black, which starts at $499 / £499 / AU$799 / Rs 51,500. It may not produce the output like the GoPro, but DJI has created its own space by offering the value-centric option to the market.

The older versions of DJI action cameras are still available in the Indian market. These older models are more likely to get price reduction once DJI Osmo Action 3 launch here.
