Android 13 is official now: here's everything you need to know

Google has officially released Android 13, this year’s major Android update. Following the release of developer previews and beta versions for months. This time Google’s annual update is getting released quite earlier than usual. The previous versions, Android 12 were released in October last year and Android 11 was released in September 2020. Android 13 is currently available for Google’s Pixel phones and will come to other devices later this year.

Android 13 is the successor to the last year’s Android 12. This Update refines a lot of features that were announced with Android 12 while bringing a bunch of small but helpful features that focus on user security, privacy, and improving the experience. let’s take a closer look at the features of Android 13

- App notification requests

Now in Android 13, Apps can’t able to send you notifications without asking you, They need take permission from the user to send the notifications. Users can now deny the notifications, which prevents the app completely from sending notifications. This feature will come in handy as it can reduce spam but users need to be careful while denying the notification permission. 

- App language preferences

For the user who uses the multi-languages on their Android devices, this new feature might come in handy for them. With this new feature, users can set a specific language for a particular app. by this users can more likely to have a more accurate translation for the language they prefer than the in-app translator.

- Copy and Paste

Users can now copy content like text, URLs, images, and videos, and paste this content onto the tablet and vice versa. This feature can be useful for scenarios like transferring URLs quickly and easily.

- Media Controls

In Android 13 media controls have been updated a bit, These are still located between the quick settings menu and notification panel. The media controls widget is bigger now and the progress bar has squiggly animation that looks cool.

- Material You Colors

Android 13 adds a bunch of new theming options with new coloring combinations for wallpaper and style apps. Users can now choose from 4 pages of wallpaper and basic colors, taking the total number of wallpaper colors and basic color combinations to 16 now.

- Digital Wellbeing

Android 13 adds new features for Digital Wellbeing. With Android 13 users can now customize the Bedtime mode with a Dark theme and wallpaper dimming. This feature aims to help the user’s eyes to adjust to the dark while going to bed.

- Limited Media Access

Android 13 brings a new security feature that limits the phone’s media (photos and videos) access from the app. For example, Currently, if a user wants to upload a photo to Facebook then the user needs to give access to the entire photo album to the app while sharing. Instead, now users can just select the images they want to upload and give access to only those images.
